In a cave near Bergamo, Italian rescuers successfully freed a caveman who remained trapped due to serious injuries.
Italian rescuers freed 32-year-old Ottavia Piana, who was injured and stuck in the Abisso Bueno Fonteño cave near the city of Bergamo, ANSA reports.
The woman has remained in jail since Saturday due to serious injuries sustained in the fall.
The rescue operation ended on Wednesday, December 18, at 03:15 in the morning. Piana was immediately taken by helicopter to a hospital in Bergamo. As a result of the fall, he suffered injuries to his spine, ribs, broken bones in his face and knees, which made him unable to move on his own.
This is not the first incident for Piana in this cave. Last year, he was stuck in the same place at a depth of 150 meters with a broken leg, there for two days before he was rescued.
Ottavia Piana is an experienced caver and instructor, but her repeated incidents in the same cave show the dangers associated with this extreme activity.
It was previously reported that in Slovenia, divers entered the flooded 8.2 kilometer Krus cave to try to evacuate five people trapped by the rain.
