Ukrainians are now fighting for a future in the European Union, and they should know that their efforts will be rewarded and that the Ukrainian flag will fly in the middle of the EU, the head of the European Commission is convinced.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said the European Union plans to open clusters as part of Ukraine’s EU accession negotiations next year, based on Ukraine’s demonstrated achievements in membership. He announced this in Strasbourg in a speech at a plenary meeting of the European Parliament in preparation for the European Council on December 19-20, 2024, reports Ukrinform on Wednesday, December 18th.
“We must continue our political support for Ukraine. They have made enormous progress towards membership in the European Union. If they continue to adhere to these efforts, we must be ready to open negotiations around the main cluster in early 2025 and (tomorrow) other clusters “this year,” emphasizes von der Leyen.
The head of the European Commission emphasized that “Ukrainians are now fighting for a future in the European Union, and they should know that their efforts will be rewarded and the flag of Ukraine will fly in the center of the EU.”
Let’s recall that Zelensky previously said that Ukraine’s goal in 2025 is to open at least two clusters in EU accession negotiations, and the highest goal is all clusters.
Earlier it was reported that Ukraine has completed the assessment of legislation in the first block of the negotiation process for EU accession.
The President hopes that Ukraine will be accepted into the European Union during the work of the new European Commission.
