The German defense concern Rheinmetall has received a new order for the supply of 20 Marder 1A3 infantry fighting vehicles for Ukraine. The equipment is expected to be delivered in the first half of 2025.
The cost of the contract is estimated at millions of euros; Germany will finance the delivery of the vehicles.
The Marder 1A3 is equipped with an additional laser rangefinder for effective and accurate target engagement.
In total, Rheinmetall has already sent hundreds of Marder infantry fighting vehicles to the Ukrainian armed forces, the company says.
The Marder infantry fighting vehicle was created in the 60s by the German company Rheinmetall AG by order of the German armed forces. It is armed with a 20 mm RH 202 automatic cannon and a coaxial 7.62 mm MG3 machine gun mounted on a carriage on top of the two-man turret. The Rh 202 cannon is loaded with 20×139 mm cartridges. In addition, it can be equipped with a MILAN ATGM, but the use of anti-tank missiles by Ukrainian Marder infantry fighting vehicles has not been noticed.
The vehicle can carry 10 people, three of whom are crew members. The commander and gunner are in the turret, and the driver is in front of the hull on the left (in the direction of travel). The fighting compartment is located in the middle part of the BMP hull.
