The special envoy of newly elected US President Donald Trump will visit Kyiv and several other European capitals in early January.
Reuters reported this on December 17, citing two sources familiar with the travel plans.
Retired Lt. Gen. Keith Kellogg, who is set to become Trump’s special envoy for Ukraine and Russia, does not plan to visit Moscow during this trip, it added.
He is expected to hold talks with the Ukrainian leadership in Kyiv, and his team is now working to organize meetings with other European leaders in Rome and Paris, sources tell Reuters.
According to the agency’s interlocutors, the meetings will be aimed at establishing facts and not at active negotiations.
The publication previously wrote that Kellogg’s plan, co-written with former National Security Council official Fred Fleitz and presented to Trump in early 2024, calls for freezing current front lines.
According to him, Trump will supply more American weapons to Kyiv only if he agrees to peace negotiations. At the same time, he will warn Moscow that he will increase American aid to Ukraine if Russia refuses negotiations. Ukraine’s membership in NATO will be suspended.
Ukraine would also be offered American security guarantees, which could include increased arms supplies after the agreement is concluded, according to the proposal.
