The initiative is being implemented as part of the Winter Support for Ukrainians program. Next year it is planned to expand it to all students.
The Cabinet of Ministers allocated more than UAH 2.6 billion, provided by the European Commission, to provide meals for children in schools. This was announced by the Prime Minister of Ukraine Denis Shmygal on December 17.
“It will be possible to provide free hot meals for primary school children in secondary institutions, taking into account their needs,” he said.
Shmygal added that the initiative was implemented within the framework of the Winter Support for Ukrainians program. Next year it is planned to expand it to all students.
We remind you that the government has provided free one-time meals to all students in grades 1-4 from October 2024.
It was previously reported that the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine signed an agreement with the United Nations World Food Program (WFP) to finance 30% of the cost of food for more than 160 thousand students in grades 1- 4 out of 16 regions of Ukraine as part of supporting school nutrition reform.
