Law enforcement officials exposed the current and former head of the Economic Court of the Lvov Region for extorting a bribe in the amount of $1 million from a representative of a private company.
The High Council of Justice agreed to detain the chairman of the Economic Court of the Lviv region, who is suspected of extorting a $1 million bribe from a representative of a private company. This was reported by the SAPO press service on Thursday, December 12.
“On December 12, 2024, the High Council of Justice satisfied the request of the head of SAPO to grant permission to detain a current judge and the former chairman of the economic court of one of the regions exposed for extortion of $1 million in non valid benefits from a representative of a private company,” the statement said.
The Supreme Court recognized the submission’s arguments as reasonable and agreed to keep these people in custody.
In addition, the current judge was suspended from the administration of justice for two months during the pre-trial investigation.
As already reported, as part of the pre-trial investigation carried out by NABU detectives, it was established that these people, for specified funds, promised to ensure the adoption of the necessary decisions in cases of court pending in one of the economic courts of appeal.
NABU detectives and SAPO prosecutors documented the transfer of part of the illegal benefits in the amount of $75 thousand.
Currently, the pre-trial investigation is ongoing, and other people who may have been involved in the commission of this crime have been identified.
We remind you that law enforcement officers exposed the current and former heads of the Economic Court of the Lviv region for extorting a bribe in the amount of $1 million from a representative of a private company.
In this regard, the publication Zerkalo Nedeli previously reported that on December 5, NABU conducted searches of the Chairman of the Economic Court of Lviv Region Vasily Artimovich and the ex-Chairman of the Western Economic Court of Appeal Boris Plotnitsky.
Earlier it became known that the chairman of the district court in the Dnepropetrovsk region was caught taking bribes. For the money, he promised to make the “correct” decision to remove the confiscation of assets seized as part of criminal proceedings.
