There must be at least 48 hours between the submission of the request and the vote in the German Parliament.
German Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz has officially submitted a request for a vote of confidence in the Bundestag. Bild reported this on Wednesday, December 11.
“Dear Leader of the Bundestag, pursuant to Article 68 of the Basic Law [Конституции ФРГ] I ask you to put the question of trust in me to a vote. Before the vote, which will take place on Monday, December 16, 2024, I intend to make a statement,” said the text of the address.
Olaf Scholz made a statement at the Federal Chancellery.
There must be at least 48 hours between the submission of the request and the vote in Parliament. In the case of Olaf Scholz, the representatives will have more time: the vote is only scheduled for December 16.
Let’s remember that on November 6, a political crisis began in Germany when Olaf Scholz decided to fire the Minister of Finance Christian Lindner, who was the leader of the Free Democratic Party. After this, the coalition government collapsed. Subsequently, the leaders of the ruling Social Democratic Party and the largest opposition alliance CDU/CSU agreed on the date of early elections to the Bundestag.
