The Court of Appeal upheld the life sentence for Artemy Ryabchuk, who shot National Guardsmen at a factory on the Dnieper.
The Dnieper Court of Appeal upheld the sentence of life imprisonment against the serviceman who shot the National Guard at the Yuzhmash plant in early 2022. The press service of the State Bureau of Investigation reported this on Wednesday, December 11.
In April, the Krasnogvardiysky District Court of Dnepr sentenced a conscript who in January 2022 opened fire at the Southern Machine-Building Plant to life imprisonment. As a result, five people died, including a civilian, and five others were injured.
During the trial, the man fully admitted his guilt, repented and apologized to the victims’ relatives.
During the investigation, it was found that during his military service the convict had a conflict with other military personnel. He witnessed several fights, which he reported to management.
Therefore, the other military men developed a negative attitude towards him. After another verbal argument, he decides to kill those who do not share his opinions and views. While in the weapons storage room, he grabs a machine gun and cartridges and starts shooting people.
After the massacre, the accused got a machine gun and 200 rounds of ammunition and tried to escape. A few hours later he was detained in the town of Podgorodnoye, Dnieper region.
Dozens of tests were conducted, including an inpatient comprehensive psychological and psychiatric examination, which proved that the soldier had no mental disorders and acted consciously.
So, the court found him guilty. The punishment is imposed in the form of life imprisonment, and the convicted person is also obliged to pay the civil claims of the relatives of the victims.
Let’s remember that during the first interrogation, the conscript soldier Artemy Ryabchuk spoke about the intimidation from his colleagues.
