The House of Commons of the Canadian Parliament approved the allocation of $587 million. for military assistance to Ukraine.
These funds are included in a major budget document, the approval of which will allow the government to spend an additional 21 billion Canadian dollars on various purposes, including national defense.
According to Canadian Defense Minister Bill Blair, these funds will be used for “ammunition, training and other means necessary for the Ukrainians to win.”
The document also includes 400 million Canadian dollars. (about $307 million) for financial assistance to Ukraine allocated from a special IMF account.
In addition, Parliament approved 45 million Canadian dollars. (about $35 million) for “humanitarian demining and strengthening cyber resilience in Ukraine.”
Note that the opposition Conservative Party, trying to force the government to resign, voted against the approval of additional spending. The spending increase was approved by the House of Commons on the last day allowed by law. For this decision to come into force, it still needs to be voted on by the soon-to-be-expected Senate of Canada.
