Ukrainian authorities consider Ottawa’s decision “unreasonable and dangerous for the regime of sanctions.”
The Canadian government, in agreement with Germany, intends to transfer to Russia the Siemens Energy AG turbine for the Nord Stream-1 gas pipeline. This was reported on July 7 by European Truth, citing sources.
It was noted that the formal reason for lifting the sanctions, if a decision is made, should be the argument that the return of the turbine will give Russia the technical capability to return the volume of gas pumped to European Union.
According to the publication, Kyiv already knows Ottawa’s intentions. The Ukrainian authorities consider this decision “unreasonable and dangerous for the regime of sanctions.”
It was reported that the Ukrainian side has reasonably explained to Canadian colleagues that the Russian Federation has the technical capacity to conduct pumping even without a turbine, but Moscow prefers to blackmail Europe.
As Ukraine’s Ministry of Energy source told Reuters, Canada’s actions could be a precedent for avoiding sanctions against Russia by the two G7 countries. In this regard, Kyiv plans to turn to European partners with a request to reconsider their approach to implementing the agreement on anti-Russian sanctions.
In addition, the publication reported that Canada has already made a decision, and, accordingly, the turbine will be returned to Russia.
Recall that Germany turned to Canada with a request to resolve the issue of providing the turbine for the Nord Stream-1 gas pipeline to eliminate in Russia a reason to reduce gas supplies.
