The protest rally in Tbilisi on the evening of December 7 did not go smoothly.
And although the security forces did not disperse the demonstrators, activists, journalists and members of the opposition were attacked by unknown persons in balaclavas. A series of attacks were recorded near Shota Rustaveli Avenue. In particular, unknown persons attacked the office of the opposition party Akhali/Coalition for Change. This was reported by Newsgeorgia.
At least two protesters were injured. One masked man was beaten quite badly – the 19-year-old victim required hospitalization. Giorgi Makharadze, an actor at the Tbilisi State Drama Theater, was also beaten.
The Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs has opened a case into a series of attacks by unknown groups in the area of Rustaveli Avenue. The night passed in Tbilisi without the dispersal of the anti-government rally participants.
Let us remind you that protests in Georgia have continued since November 28, when the head of government, Irakli Kobakhidze, announced the suspension of the country’s European integration until 2028.
Police use water cannons and tear gas to disperse protesters. The European Union and the United States condemned the violence, and Ukraine imposed sanctions.
