The administration of US President Joe Biden is discussing the possibility of preventive pardons for officials who may face prosecution under the presidency of Donald Trump.
The Washington Post found out about this.
Such discussions in the current presidential administration arose against the backdrop of the fact that both Trump himself and the candidates from whom he wants to form his future team have repeatedly spoken about the political persecution of their political opponents. In particular, Cash Patel, whom Trump wants to appoint as FBI director, called for retribution against Trump’s opponents and critics.
Biden has not yet made a decision on a “preemptive” pardon. But his team is working to ensure that if the decision is positive, everything will be ready. Discussions about “premature pardons” of individual politicians and officials, according to WP, are being held at the highest level in the White House.
The names included in the discussions were Anthony Fauci, who was responsible for the COVID-19 response, former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Mark Milley, who called Trump a “fascist,” and California Senator Adam Schiff, who led the investigation into the first impeachment of Limp Trump.
Among Democrats there is no clear assessment of such a possible pardon, writes WP.
