The opposition demanded the release of all those detained and the holding of new elections. The requests were sent to oligarch Bidzina Ivanishvili, who is the honorary head of the ruling party.
Four opposition political forces in Georgia, which passed the threshold in parliamentary elections, but do not recognize the legitimacy of the parliament, published a joint statement on Thursday, December 5, reports the Echo of the Caucasus.
The political organizations Coalition for Change, United National Movement, Strong Georgia and For Georgia appealed directly to the founder and honorary chairman of the ruling Georgian Dream party Bidzina Ivanishvili with demands, the implementation of which, in their opinion, is necessary to overcome the crisis in the country.
The opposition demands:
-
immediately release all political prisoners detained during protests against election fraud and for the European future of the country, as well as close all cases filed against them;
-
call for new parliamentary elections to be conducted by a new, independent electoral body and ensure the political neutrality of law enforcement agencies.
Let’s remember that last night, for the first time in a week of massive pro-European protests, there were no major clashes between demonstrators and the police.
As reported, on November 28, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said that Georgia rejects EU accession negotiations until 2028.
After that, people came out in Tbilisi to protest en masse against the government’s actions. Security forces tried to disperse the protesters with water cannons.
