Hunter Biden faces up to twenty-five years in prison and a $750,000 fine.
In the US, a judge dismissed the case against 54-year-old Hunter Biden after President Joe Biden pardoned his son. The Hill wrote this on Tuesday, December 3.
In a brief order, federal Judge Maryellen Noreiko halted all proceedings, citing an executive pardon granted by President Biden.
“Hunter Biden was found guilty in June of lying about the use of illegal drugs when purchasing weapons six years ago, as well as illegal possession of them in 2018, when purchasing a Colt Cobra 38SPL revolver, Biden Jr. said in a federal questionnaire that he was not a drug addict.
The Hill noted that Biden’s decision to issue the pardon was a dramatic departure from the president’s earlier statements that he would allow the proceedings against his son to proceed. At the same time, the president said that he believes in justice, but also believes that politics influenced his son’s case.
It is understood that Hunter has admitted to using cocaine and that he and his father have openly discussed the issue. Hunter Biden faces up to 25 years in prison and a $750,000 fine. The sentencing scheduled for December 12 was canceled.
US President-elect Donald Trump called the pardon of outgoing White House chief Joe Biden’s son Gunther an “abuse” and a “violation of justice.”
Earlier, American President Joe Biden signed a document pardoning his son, although the head of the White House had previously claimed that he would not do so. Hunter Biden was acquitted as a defendant on charges of weapons violations and tax evasion. The verdict in the first case is expected on December 12, in the second – on December 16.
