In Ukraine, “military” or “black” tours are widely sold – this is the name given to travel with the aim of seeing the destruction as a result of war.
According to the Swiss publication Sarganserländer, military tours to Ukraine are offered by approximately 10 Ukrainian travel companies.
The cost of tours ranges from 150 to 250 euros.
Some travel agencies deliver their clients almost to a war zone for thousands of euros.
For example, Nick Tan from the United States flew to Kharkov in July 2024, which was constantly under fire.
“I just wanted to see it because I think our lives in the West are too comfortable and easy,” says the 34-year-old thrill-seeker who works for a New York technology company. “Jumping out of planes, partying all night and punching people in the face is not for me.” So what will be better? Go into the war zone.
The authors of the material write that this attitude seems strange to the residents of the destroyed Irpen, who still live in constant danger.
Recently, the Shahed drone crashed 300 meters from my house. I had no desire to experience something like that. But if people want it, that’s their right,” said 52-year-old Ruslan Savchuk.
Deputy of the local council of Irpen Mikhailina Skorik-Shkarovskaya said that among local residents there are also opponents of black tourism.
Why are you coming here? Why do you want to see our sadness? – some Ukrainians asked tourists, the article says.
