The Lvov region has become the first in Ukraine where there is no longer a single registered religious community of the Russian Orthodox Church of Ukraine, the head of the OBA said.
The head of the Lviv OBA, Maxim Kozitsky, noted that the first region of Ukraine that was completely removed from the religious communities under the jurisdiction of the Moscow patriarchy was the Lviv region. He reported it to Facebook on Friday, November 29th.
According to Kozitsky, today is a historic day for the Lviv region.
“The region was deprived of religious communities under the Moscow Patriarchate Lvov region became the first in Ukraine where there is no longer a registered religious community of the Russian Orthodox Church of Ukraine,” he said.
Before the start of the Russian aggression against Ukraine in 2014, there were 66 religious communities of the Moscow Patriarchate in the Lviv region.
As of February 24, 2022, there are 54 of them left.
During Russia’s massive invasion of Ukraine:
-
27 communities joined the Orthodox Church of Ukraine.
-
27 communities stopped their activities under their own leadership.
“The fate of religious communities proves once again that there is no future for manipulation and deception. There are only two ways – truth or lies, and the truth will definitely win,” said Kozitsky.
In addition, he hopes that “the religious communities of the Moscow Patriarchate in other areas of our state do not rely on the implementation of the norms of Ukrainian law. On the protection of the constitutional order in the field of activity of religious organizationsand finally they will break the ties with the structure of the bloody Moscow priests.”
“What Ukraine will look like tomorrow depends on each of us,” summed up the head of OVA.
In June, the Lviv City Council decided to ban the Moscow Patriarchate from the territory of Lvov.
Earlier, the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate in the Council decided on administrative separation from the Russian Orthodox Church, but “with the preservation of spiritual communication.”
It was also reported that the Cabinet of Ministers will not remove religious buildings from the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate, so as not to violate the current law.
The head of the OCU, Metropolitan Epifaniy, said that the UOC of the Moscow Patriarchate continues to maintain unity with Moscow Patriarch Kirill (Gundyaev). His declaration of independence was just a deceptive maneuver to change the attitude of Ukrainian society towards itself.
