Georgia has decided to abandon negotiations on accession to the European Union until 2028.
Also, the Georgian government is refusing any budget grants from the European Union until the end of 2028. Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze stated this on November 28, Echo of the Caucasus reported.
We decided not to put on the agenda the issue of opening negotiations with the European Union until the end of 2028, he emphasized.
And the speaker of the Georgian parliament, Shalva Papuashvili, has already doubted the country’s accession to the European Union. According to NewsGeorgia, Papuashvili said that Georgia’s membership in the bloc would allegedly cause “restrictions” in various areas, including the loss of economic opportunities and the “collapse of the wine industry.”
Let us remind you that on November 28, the European Parliament did not recognize the results of the parliamentary elections in Georgia and called for new ones. Deputies condemned numerous violations in the October 26 elections and emphasized that the official results, according to which the pro-government Georgian Dream party won, “do not reflect the freedom of the Georgian people.”
