The scientist spoke to the future vice president, saying that the events in Ukraine have a direct impact on US national security and international peace.
American writer and scholar George Weigel publicly called on US Vice President-elect JD Vance to reconsider his position on Russia’s war against Ukraine. He published his appeal in a column for the publication First Things.
In particular, Weigel points out the moral aspect of this issue.
“Soon you will be sworn in as Vice President of the United States, I urge you, as a Catholic and a patriot, to rethink your position regarding the war that Russia is waging against Ukraine is not worthy,” writer’s emphasis.
He also noted that events in Ukraine have a direct impact on US national security and international peace.
“By education and belief, Vladimir Putin is a security officer: a pathological autocrat, whose disfigured worldview and murderous attitude toward opponents was formed in the moral cesspool of the Soviet intelligence services,” Weigel said in his address.
Weigel recalled that the Russian dictator had openly declared his intention to reverse the historic verdict on the Soviet system.
“He is waging a genocidal war on Ukraine to realize his ambitions. Like the aggressors of the 1930s, he will not stop until he is stopped. Ukraine is fighting for all of us. If Ukraine loses, then We lost, along with the whole world,” he added.
The scientist also called on the vice-president-elect to become more familiar with Putin’s personality.
Earlier, JD Vance said he would not call Putin an “enemy” and called for negotiations with Russia.
