Colonel General of the Russian Army Gennady Anashkin was fired from the post of commander of the South group of troops with a scandal.
The personnel decision was made by the high command of the Russian Armed Forces on Saturday, November 23. Anashkin was allegedly suspected of concealing the real state of affairs in the Seversky direction. In particular, he hid the real losses of the invading army. This was reported by the Russian Telegram channel Mash.
The Russian leadership has not yet officially announced Anashkin’s resignation.
As you know, Anashkin was the commander of the Russian military formation in Nagorno-Karabakh from September 2021 to January 2022. And since May 2024, he became the temporary commander of the troops of the Southern Military District of the Russian Federation.
Let us recall that in August, the WSJ, citing its own sources, reported that several months before the breakthrough in the Kursk region, General Alexander Lapin dissolved the council, which took care of the defense of the region. As a result, the border was left without defense and the Armed Forces of Ukraine took advantage of this.
