Budapest views the restrictions against the Russian bank as “an attack on Hungarian sovereignty,” said Peter Szijjarto.
US sanctions against Gazprombank seem to threaten the energy security of several Central European countries. This was said by Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjártó, Bloomberg reports.
According to him, such a decision by the United States is allegedly an “attack on… the sovereignty” of Hungary. That is why Hungary is “considering the situation with the energy ministers of Turkey, Azerbaijan, Bulgaria and Serbia.”
“Hungary is grateful to Turkey, Bulgaria and Serbia for providing a very safe, very reliable and very stable transit (of gas – ed.),” the Hungarian official assured.
Note that some EU countries, in particular Hungary, Slovakia and Austria, are still dependent on Russian gas supplies. Therefore, these countries used the sanctioned Gazprombank to pay for its supplies.
The media wrote that if gas supplies to Europe are stopped, competition for global supplies may increase, as well as prices for blue fuel may increase.
As already written, the United States has introduced new large-scale sanctions against the Russian financial sector. For the first time, Gazprombank was subjected to sanctions, due to which Western countries bought gas from Russia.
