Most of the casualties are due to the conflict in the Gaza Strip, where 320 aid workers have been killed since October 7, 2023.
A record number of aid workers have died this year in conflicts around the world. This was announced by the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs on Friday, November 22.
“In 2024, 281 humanitarian workers died worldwide, a record number of victims,” the report said.
In 2023, 280 humanitarian aid workers were reported dead.
The UN noted that such indicators are caused, in particular, by the conflict in the Gaza Strip, where 320 humanitarian workers have been killed since October 7, 2023. Most of the victims worked for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA).
In addition to Gaza, there are threats to the lives of aid workers in Afghanistan, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Sudan, South Sudan, Yemen and Ukraine.
Let’s remember that in August the UN admitted that its employees were involved in the attack on Israel in October last year.
In October, the Israeli parliament passed a law banning the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Middle East (UNRWA) from operating in the country.
