Scholz has the lowest rating (31.4) among German politicians. Germany’s most popular politician is Boris Pistorius (52.8), but he will not stand as a candidate.
Leaders of Germany’s Social Democratic Party (SPD), which leads the ruling coalition, are debating who to nominate as chancellor candidate in early elections in February. The current head of government, Olaf Scholz, has said he wants to be re-elected. BILD reported it.
It was noted that Scholz had the lowest rating (31.4) of all major German politicians.
Germany’s most popular politician is another Social Democrat, Defense Minister Boris Pistorius (52.8).
Several prominent members and regional cells of the SPD are reported to be in favor of Pistorius. But most of the party leadership remained loyal to Scholz. In the end they won. The head of the Ministry of Defense has announced that he will not run for chancellor.
According to the sociological institute INSA, Scholz is losing early to the other candidates – Friedrich Merz from the conservative bloc CDU/CSU and Robert Habeck from Union 90/Greens.
Let’s remember that on November 6, a political crisis began in Germany when Olaf Scholz decided to fire the Minister of Finance Christian Lindner, who was the leader of the Free Democratic Party. After this, the coalition government collapsed. Later, the leaders of the leading Social Democratic Party and the largest opposition alliance CDU/CSU agreed on the date of early elections to the Bundestag.
