Ukraine informed the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) about the consequences of Russia’s recent mass attack. Among other things, the invaders hit substations, which are critical for generating electricity from nuclear units. This was confirmed by a statement of the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine published on Telegram on Thursday, November 21.
Energy Minister German Galushchenko discussed in Vienna with the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Rafael Grossi the need to extend the Agency’s missions to all substations on which the safe operation of nuclear power plants in Ukraine.
“Despite previous IAEA missions and experts’ observations on the importance of functioning substations as a guarantee of nuclear and radiation safety of nuclear power plants in Ukraine, the attacks only intensify our monitoring to document the consequences of this attack and to avoid such attacks in the future,” the official said.
Grossi assured that the Agency is ready to organize related missions in the near future.
The parties discussed the situation at the occupied Zaporozhye nuclear power plant, which is again on the verge of blackout due to enemy shelling.
Galushchenko noted the need for immediate implementation of the IAEA resolution on returning control of the station to Ukraine.
We remind you that on November 11, there were emergency power outages in some regions of Ukraine due to the threat of a missile attack. The Russians scrambled the bombers, but no missile launch took place.
