Moscow does not intend to make significant territorial concessions and demands that Kyiv abandon its desire to join NATO, the sources said.
Russian dictator Vladimir Putin appears ready to negotiate a ceasefire in Ukraine with US President-elect Donald Trump. Reuters reported this on Wednesday, November 20, citing five sources familiar with the Kremlin owner’s opinion.
According to them, Putin may agree to cool down the conflict on the current front line. At the same time, options for dividing the regions of Donetsk, Lugansk, Zaporozhye and Kherson, which Russia considers its own, but not full control, are being discussed.
In addition, Putin may consider minor concessions in some areas of the Kharkov and Nikolaev regions. However, the position on Crimea remains unchanged: this region will not be the subject of negotiations.
The Russian dictator has insisted that any deal must take into account “the facts on the ground” and fears a short-term truce would allow the West to rearm in Ukraine.
Among the conditions being discussed are Ukraine’s permanent neutrality and withdrawal from NATO, international security guarantees, the size of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the removal of restrictions on the use of the Russian language.
Earlier, Putin made a new statement about “peace negotiations” in Ukraine. According to him, if Ukraine does not assume neutrality, it will be difficult to imagine having “good relations with the neighborhood.”
