The Russian Foreign Ministry considers Sweden and Finland’s entry into NATO a step towards escalation. This was reported by the Russian media.

Director of the Information and Press Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry Alexei Zaitsev said that the accession of Finland and Sweden to NATO could exacerbate the situation in the Baltic and Arctic region.

“Finland and Sweden’s signing of a protocol on joining NATO is another step towards increasing political and military tensions in Europe. Helsinki and Stockholm must understand that joining the North Atlantic bloc will aggravate the situation in the Baltic and Arctic, ”Zaitsev said.

It will be recalled that the heads of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Finland and Sweden on Tuesday, July 5, signed the protocols on joining the North Atlantic Alliance.

Earlier, a new NATO strategic concept was adopted, which Russia called the main security threat.
