The future president of the United States noted that he valued his previous work with Pompeo and Gailey.
The winner of the US presidential election, Donald Trump, will not invite former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and former Republican presidential candidate Nikki Galey to join his future administration. CBS News reports.
“I will not invite former Ambassador Nikki Galey or former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo to join the current Trump administration,” the politician said.
However, the future president noted that he valued his past work with Pompeo and Gailey.
“I have really enjoyed and appreciated working with them in the past, and I want to thank them for their service to our country,” Trump added.
This statement came after the American media, citing sources familiar with the formation process of the White House administration, said that the candidacy of the 60-year-old Pompeo was being discussed as a possible contender for the position of Secretary of Defense instead of the current head of the Pentagon, Lloyd Austin.
Former US Secretary of State (from April 26, 2018 to January 20, 2021) Mike Pompeo repeatedly made statements calling for increased support for Ukraine, contrary to other Republican figures Party close to Trump.
Former South Carolina governor Nikki Gailey, 52, ran for the Republican nomination in the 2016 presidential election but endorsed Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida after leaving.
Gailey did not run for president in 2020, but filed a bid for the Oval Office this year. However, in March, Gailey, Trump’s main rival, withdrew from the race, and two months later, in a speech at the Milwaukee Republican National, he endorsed Trump.
