European leaders agreed to urge Donald Trump to maintain his support for Ukraine.
At the European Political Community summit in Budapest on Thursday, November 7, about 50 EU leaders agreed to urge the future US president to continue to support Ukraine. They will also ask Trump to avoid trade wars and refrain from disrupting the world order. This was reported by Reuters.
In particular, the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, said that the European Union must now unite, because not a single EU member state can cope with the upcoming challenges on its own.
The head of the European Council, Charles Michel, noted that he “trusts American society.”
Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo said he was concerned about the prospect of a trade war.
And NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte noted that the war in Ukraine should be viewed as a problem that goes beyond Europe. And he called the partnership between the aggressor country Russia and North Korea a threat not only to Europe, but also to the United States.
According to Reuters, at the summit in Budapest, a number of European leaders said they were looking forward to working with Trump. Some openly expressed concern.
Let us recall that on November 7, President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky addressed the summit of the European Political Community in Budapest. The head of state said that the concept of “peace through strength” has repeatedly proven its realism and effectiveness and now it is needed again.
