Sharmakhd was found guilty of alleged involvement in the bombing of a mosque in the city of Shiraz in 2008. His family has long maintained that Sharmahd is innocent.

Tehran says German-Iranian software developer Jamshid Sharmahd has died before his scheduled execution. DW reported this on Tuesday, November 5.

“Jamshid Sharmahd was sentenced to death, his execution was inevitable, but he died before it could be carried out,” court spokesman Asghar Jahangir told reporters, without giving details.

However, Jahangir’s statement directly contradicted the earlier statements of the Iranian government, which claimed to have killed the prisoner.

The court spokesman’s comments came after Sharmahd’s son Ghazelle publicly demanded details of his father’s death and demanded that his remains be returned to the family.

*In Iran, Sharmakhd was found guilty of alleged involvement in the bombing of a mosque in the city of Shiraz in 2008. His family has long maintained that Sharmahd is innocent. Tehran also accused Sharmakhd of leading the Tondar opposition group, which is designated a terrorist organization in Iran.
In February 2023, the man was sentenced to death.
On October 28, a message appeared on the Iranian judicial system website Mizan that “the death sentence of Jamshid Sharmakhd has been carried out.”

We remind you that the other day, German Foreign Minister Annalena Bärbock announced that all Iranian consulates in Germany will be closed in response to Sharmakhd’s execution.

It was also learned that Germany will request pan-European sanctions against those involved in Sharmakhd’s death penalty.
