Hong Kong’s government air support service said 27 people were missing after their boat broke up in a typhoon in the South China Sea on Saturday.
The engineering ship was 160 nautical miles southwest of Hong Kong when it was caught in Typhoon Chaba; he”sustained significant damage and split into twosaid the Hong Kong government’s flying service. Help was dispatched to the scene at around 07:25 local time (23:25 GMT on Friday) after being alerted.
12 bodies were found
Three of the 30 crew members were rescued at 3:00 p.m. local time and taken to hospital, authorities said. Typhoon Chaba formed in the central South China Sea and made landfall in southern China’s Guangdong province on Saturday afternoon. In the area where the ship was located, there were winds of 144 kilometers per hour and waves up to 10 meters high, authorities said. The rescuers will expand the search operations.due to the large number of missing personsand extend the operation into the night if conditions permit.
