Each North Korean soldier is paid a salary of about $2,000 per month.
According to South Korean intelligence, the DPRK’s agreement with Russia on the provision of troops will largely solve Pyongyang’s financial and food problems. The Korea Herald reported this on Sunday, November 3.
Congressman and former South Korean Ambassador to the Russian Federation Wi Seong Lak, citing intelligence data, noted that the agreement on the participation of North Korean troops in the war against Ukraine is beneficial to Pyongyang.
South Korea’s National Intelligence Service informed lawmakers that each North Korean soldier will be paid a salary of about $2,000 per month. At least 10,000 North Korean soldiers are being sent to Ukraine, so the total annual payments are more than $200 million.
In addition to the military, there are currently about 4,000 North Korean workers in the Russian Federation. Their average salary is expected to be around $800 per month.
Also, according to the agreement, the Russian Federation will provide food aid to Pyongyang. North Korea produces less than 4 million tons of grains such as rice, barley and wheat each year.
“The four million tons of grain that North Korea says it produces every year is actually 1 million tons less than what is needed to feed the country If the Russian Federation offers 600-700 thousand tons of rice, then this is enough to cover more than half of what the DPRK needs to meet its annual needs,” explained Wi Son Lak.
At the same time, as intelligence reports, the Russian Federation is helping North Korea with the latest space technologies.
In turn, former INSS President Nam Seong-wook said that analysts often “minimize” the importance of North Korea joining the war in Ukraine.
“Military cooperation between North Korea and Russia will continue after the war. They have agreed to provide immediate military assistance if either is attacked under a mutual defense agreement in force,” he said.
Nam was told that North Korea “will be useful to Russia as a bargaining chip” in negotiations with the next US administration.
“Moscow will use its close ties with Pyongyang to gain leverage over Washington, just as Beijing has done in the past,” he added.
We remind you that Ukraine plans to submit a detailed request for weapons to South Korea in the near future. President Vladimir Zelensky said this. At the same time, he clarified that he did not know how Suel would respond to such a request.
