Taiwan has halted supplies of machine tools to Russia after tightening export control rules, Taiwan News reported, citing the island state’s Ministry of Economy.
The corresponding statement was made public after the publication of a report by the British Royal United Institute for Defense Studies and the Open Source Center, which provides an analysis of open information for American intelligence agencies. The report identified Taiwan as a supplier of mechanical equipment for the Russian Federation.
In connection with the possibility of using mechanical equipment for military purposes, the Ministry of Economy of Taiwan implemented several measures to stop their export to Russia. In particular, the fine for an initial violation of the sanctions has increased significantly to NT$1 million (US$31,310).
In March, the Taiwanese government expanded the list of restrictions on the export of high-tech products to Russia and Belarus, including 77 types of numerically controlled machine tools.
Earlier it became known that the Russian military industry continues to receive modern mechanical equipment from Taiwan, despite the imposed sanctions.
