Seoul wants to see the level of involvement of North Korean forces in the Russian war before deciding to provide arms to Kyiv.
The decision to provide armed support to Ukraine depends on the degree of involvement of North Korean forces in the war between Russia and Ukraine. This was announced on Thursday, October 31, by South Korean Foreign Minister Cho Tae-yul.
“Regarding our plan to provide weapons to Ukraine, depending on the development of military cooperation between the DPRK and Russia, we should see the level of involvement of the DPRK forces in Russia, and what the North will receive Korea from Russia,” the foreign minister said.
He made the corresponding statement in a press conference with the participation of the South Korean Minister of Defense, the US Secretary of State and the head of the Pentagon.
“Therefore, we need to look at this before making a decision on supporting Ukraine with weapons,” the minister added.
We remind you that Ukraine plans to send a detailed request for weapons to South Korea in the near future, President Vladimir Zelensky said in an interview with a South Korean TV channel. At the same time, he made it clear that he did not know how South Korea would respond to such a request.
Earlier, the media reported that a small number of North Korean troops were seen on the territory of Ukraine.
