In two German cities, Hannover and Frankfurt am Main, a pilot project for the legal sale of cannabis for adults is planned from 2025, which will be accompanied by a scientific study of its impact. This was reported by Tagesschau on Wednesday, October 30.
The purpose of the research is to investigate consumer behavior, the impact of regular consumption on health, and to provide better protection to young people who are interested in such products.
In particular, they plan to open up to three specialty stores in Hannover. The experiment will last five years and will be accompanied by research from the Hannover Medical School.
Any adult resident of the city without health contraindications can be a participant, provided the person undertakes to answer the research questionnaires. Participants will be given ID cards, with which they can exclusively buy cannabis in these stores in legal quantities – with a ban on sharing with third parties under the threat of exclusion from the project.
Store staff will be specially trained. It is expected that about 4 thousand people will participate in it.
It is worth noting that a similar model will be implemented in Frankfurt am Main in collaboration with the Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences.
We remind you that in Germany on April 1, a law partially legalizing cannabis came into effect. Adults are allowed to keep and grow a certain amount for themselves.
Subsequently, in June, the German authorities introduced a maximum limit for drivers to use cannabis.
