The worst-case scenario involves a possible continuation of massive Russian attacks on winter generation facilities.
Ukrenergo is preparing several scenarios for the winter of 2024-2025 in Ukraine. They warned that it would be difficult. The acting head of Ukrenergo, Alexey Brecht, spoke about it, Suspilne wrote.
“Three options, which also take into account the worst-case scenario – continued massive shelling of infrastructure, transmission networks, generation facilities, and so on,” said Brecht.
According to him, in the spring, due to the shelling of the Russian Federation, Ukraine lost 9 GW of generating capacity and this is a “significant loss” Ukrenergo has plans to restore this capacity.
The worst-case scenario for the winter under consideration is the continuation of massive Russian attacks on generation facilities.
“In this scenario, given the amount of imported electrical energy we have now, we could have limited electrical energy power on critical, cold days, up to two queues of shutdown schedules, not until eight hours,” – assured the head of Ukrenergo.
Ukraine and the European Union agreed to increase the possibility of winter electricity imports to 2.1 GW.
Finland will provide Ukraine with a new aid package as part of cooperation in the energy sector.
