Hungarian Prime Minister Orban arrived in Tbilisi for talks with Georgian authorities after the country’s controversial parliamentary elections.
The arrival of the plane was broadcast by pro-government Georgian TV channels, in particular Imedi, which opposed him as “the prime minister of the country presiding over the EU.”
Subsequently, the Hungarian Prime Minister was booed in Tbilisi, writes Sova. The politician’s motorcade, leaving the Marriot Hotel on Rustaveli Avenue, passed by protesters gathered in the city center. On the evening of October 28, a spontaneous action against massive fraud in the parliamentary elections is taking place near the Georgian parliament.
As protesters passed by the hotel, Orban came out of the building, accompanied by security. The demonstrators who noticed him began to boo the politician.
In a video published on the telegram channel of journalist Ekaterina Kotrikadze, the crowd can be heard shouting “Kurva” to Orban. The publication Paper Kartuli clarifies that the Hungarian prime minister was also addressed with cries of “Putin is a Khuilo” and “Rusebo” (“Russians”). When cars passed people, they whistled and honked.
The Hungarian Prime Minister is accused of trying to legitimize the Georgian Dream, which, according to official data, won the elections. Orban became the first and only foreign leader (besides the president and prime minister of neighboring Azerbaijan and Armenia) to congratulate the ruling party on its victory. Moreover, two days after the elections, he personally arrived in Tbilisi.
Demonstrators in Tbilisi are gathering near the parliament building on Rustaveli Avenue – it has already been blocked, writes Paper Kartuli. According to media estimates, about 300 people have already gathered for the protest.
Earlier, the election commission announced the victory of the pro-government Georgian Dream party in the elections, but all 4 opposition parties do not recognize this. Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili did not recognize the election results and scheduled a protest rally for this evening.
