The man commented on one of the Internet sites under an article about Russia’s war against Ukraine.
A court of a suburb of Riga has approved an agreement to investigate a pensioner accused of inciting ethnic hatred. The reason for the accusation was the man’s comment on the Internet, in which he wanted Russia’s “successful destruction” of the Ukrainians. On Monday, July 4, European Truth reports.
The Latvia Prosecutor General’s Office reported that the accused pleaded guilty and agreed to the investigation. He was given a suspended sentence of three months and one day with a probationary period of six months.
It was noted that the pensioner made a comment on one of the Internet sources under an article about Russia’s war against Ukraine. The Latvian Ombudsman’s Office acknowledged that the comment was hate speech.
The state security service is investigating the case.
It is learned that on June 10, Latvian state security conducted 19 criminal trials and conducted four more police trials on the fact of hate speech.
Most of these cases are connected with aggressive actions against Ukraine and its citizens.
Earlier, Latvia announced that it intended to ban citizens of Russia and Belarus from participating in businesses important to the country’s security.
It will be recalled that the National Electronic Media Council of Latvia has imposed a ban on the broadcasting of the last 80 TV channels from Russia, which can still be watched in the country.
