Parliamentary elections in Georgia started today, October 26.
These parliamentary elections are called historic and decisive. It is the results of the vote that will show whether Georgia will move closer to the European Union and whether it will strengthen relations with the Russian Federation. The ruling Georgian Dream party is opposed to several opposition blocs. This was reported by the publications “Echo of the Caucasus” and “Novosti-Georgia”.
The Georgian Central Election Commission counted the total number of voters – 3 million 508 thousand 294 citizens. Voting began at 8:00 and will last until 20:00 local time. There are 3 thousand 44 polling stations, as well as 67 polling stations in 53 cities in 42 countries.
For the first time in the history of Georgia, parliament is elected not according to a mixed system, but entirely according to a proportional system.
A poll showed that the powerful Georgian Dream could get 35% of the vote. Another 19% of voters are ready to vote for the “Coalition for Change – Gvaramia, Melia, Gorchi, Droa” bloc. The Unity party can get 16% of the votes.
Let us recall that a survey by Edison Research before the parliamentary elections in Georgia showed that opposition parties that overcome the entry barrier receive a total of more than half of the votes.
