Volodin noted that the mayor of the city of Lappeenranta was mistaken, that the NATO base would create a sense of security in the city.
State Duma Speaker of the Russian Federation Vyacheslav Volodin commented on the statement by the mayor of the city of Lappeenranta (Finland) on the provision of the city’s airport to host a NATO base if necessary.
According to Volodin, the mayor of the city of Lappeenranta was mistaken that the NATO base would create a sense of security in the city.
“In case fighting breaks out, strikes are mainly delivered on enemy military infrastructure. The placement of NATO bases will not protect either Finland or Sweden. On the contrary, it will put at risk the inhabitants of the city where the military infrastructure is located, ”he said.
Earlier, the Finnish city authorities of Lappeenranta, located about 25 km from the Russian border, were considering the possibility of creating a NATO base after Finland joined the Alliance.
Recall that the Russian Foreign Ministry said that if Finland joined NATO, Russia’s military would consider “all necessary measures.”
It was also reported that Finland had declared their readiness to fight Russia.
