The aggressor country, Russia, actively supports the Yemeni Houthis.
Moscow provides militants with satellite data to guide missiles and attack drones against Western-owned ships in the Red Sea. The attacks on merchant ships were part of a widespread campaign aimed at undermining the security of important shipping lanes. This was reported by The Wall Street Journal, citing three sources.
It is noted that the Russians transmitted information to the Houthis through representatives of the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. Data from Russian satellites allowed militants to attack one of the most important sea corridors for world trade, passing through the Red Sea.
WSJ writes that Russia in this way not only helped the Houthis, but also increased its influence in the region due to its support for pro-Iranian groups, which threatens international security and trade.
Let us recall that in June the Yemeni Houthis attacked the Verbena ship, owned by Ukraine but operated by Poland, in the Gulf of Aden. The militants launched two anti-ship cruise missiles that hit the ship. One civilian sailor was seriously injured during the attack.
