The provisions of the agreement with the Russian Federation are not relevant due to the fact that Lithuania is a member of the International Maritime Organization and the International Labor Organization and has joined regional agreements.
The Lithuanian government approved the proposal of the Ministry of Transport to denounce the agreement with Russia on merchant shipping. Kauno diena reported it.
After the government approves the ministry’s initiative, the President of Lithuania will submit it to the Seimas for condemnation.
As is known, the agreement was concluded in 1993; it regulates relations in the field of maritime transport.
The Ministry of Transport of Lithuania stated that the provisions of this agreement are no longer relevant to the country. Condemnation was also proposed due to Russia’s aggression against Ukraine and the Kremlin’s gross violation of international law, due to which cooperation with this regime was completely suspended.
Reportedly, the provisions of the agreement with the Russian Federation are not relevant due to the fact that Lithuania is a member of the International Maritime Organization and the International Labor Organization and has joined regional agreements. The conventions of these organizations, ratified by Lithuania, establish the right of seafarers to go ashore without a visa, to safe working and onboard conditions, fair working conditions, the right to health care, medical, various measures and forms of social security. The agreements also regulate various areas of international shipping – the safe operation of ships, the prevention of pollution from ships, the security of ships, the work and lives of seafarers on board .
We remind you that Lithuania has installed counter-mobility devices for the territory near the bridge connecting the country to the Russian Federation, as well as the Neman River crossings.
It was also reported that two Lithuanians were deprived of citizenship for joining the ranks of the Russian army.
