Russia, as an aggressor country, must pay – and will pay, said the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola.
The European Parliament supported the proposal to give Ukraine an EU loan in the amount of 35 billion euros. The corresponding decision was made on Tuesday, October 22.
635 MEPs took part in the vote, of which 518 voted in favor, 56 voted against, and 61 abstained. Before this, the debate continued for several hours.
“With this vote we are sending a strong signal: we are using the proceeds from Russia’s fixed assets to support Ukraine, and Russia, as an aggressor country, must pay – and will pay,” said by European Parliament President Roberta Metsola.
In this regard, Prime Minister Denis Shmygal wrote in Telegram that “this is an important contribution to the EU within the $50 billion (more than 45 billion euros – ed.) loan to the G7 using the proceeds from Russia’s fixed assets , which will help cover Ukraine’s immediate financial needs”.
At the same time, it is known that the final amount that the EU will give to Ukraine as a loan may be lower, depending on what contributions are made by other G7 countries.
This morning the UK announced its share of the G7 loan – around $3 billion.
We remind you that the United States is ready to provide Ukraine with up to $20 billion as part of a loan from the G7, which will be repaid with revenues from Russia’s fixed assets. But now there is no final decision.
