South Korean soldiers will serve as translators if the North Koreans are captured by Ukrainian defenders.
Seoul could send its military and intelligence to Ukraine, and would also consider supplying Ukraine with lethal weapons. Newsweek wrote this on Monday, October 21, citing South Korean media.
“These measures are a response to North Korea sending its military to participate in the war launched by Moscow against Ukraine on the side of Russia,” the publication wrote.
It is indicated that the South Korean military in Ukraine will provide translation services and take part in the interrogation of North Korean soldiers captured by the Ukrainians.
“They will also provide information to Kyiv about North Korea’s military tactics, doctrine and operations,” Newsweek wrote.
It should be noted that there is no official confirmation of this information. However, South Korea’s Ministry of Defense stated in a press briefing that it is open to reconsidering its position regarding the possible supply of lethal weapons to Ukraine. Before this, Seoul only officially provided humanitarian assistance to Kyiv.
The South Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned the Ambassador to Seoul, Georgy Zinoviev, to protest against the sending of North Korean troops to the Russian Federation for deployment in Ukraine.
We remind you that the South Korean intelligence announced that the DPRK has decided to send 12 thousand military personnel to support Russia in the war against Ukraine. We are talking about four brigades of soldiers, in particular special forces.
