Israel is awaiting permission for IDF forces to engage in “active coercion” to prevent Hezbollah from rearming and rebuilding its military infrastructure near the border.
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken is traveling to Israel and other countries in the Middle East to discuss ways to achieve peace in the region. Deputy Press Secretary of the US State Department, Vedant Patel, announced this on Monday, October 21, Ukrinform reports.
“This afternoon the Secretary of State will travel to Israel and other countries in the Middle East,” a US State Department spokesman said.
He said that during the visit, Blinken will reaffirm the United States’ “enduring commitment to Israel’s security and emphasize the need to promote lasting peace for Israelis and Palestinians throughout the region.”
In addition, the head of American diplomacy will discuss ways to end the war in Gaza, free all hostages and expand humanitarian aid.
“He will talk about planning for a post-conflict Gaza Strip free from the domination of Hamas,” Patel said.
Blinken reaffirmed the US commitment to work with partners across the region to reduce tensions and promote long-term stability.
We remind you that UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres condemned the “expansion of the conflict in the Middle East” and called for a ceasefire. This happened against the backdrop of a massive Iranian missile attack on Israel, organized by Tehran in response to Israel’s operation against the Lebanese Hezbollah. Guterres was declared persona non grata in Israel.
