About a hundred Indian citizens ended up in the Russian army, eight Indians died as a result of participation in Russia’s war against Ukraine.
The Secretary of the Indian Ministry of External Affairs, Vikram Misri, said that the country has managed to return 85 citizens who were fraudulently recruited into the Russian army to participate in the war against Ukraine. IndiaTV reported this on Monday, October 21.
At the same time, it was noted that another 20 Indian citizens are in the Russian army. At the same time, the country’s Foreign Ministry is actively working for their release.
“Diplomats are in close contact with mediators in the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Defense on the issue of Indians being illegally recruited into the Russian army. This issue has been discussed at the highest level, especially, by Prime Minister Modi and Putin,” Misri said.
He added that India has also returned the bodies of its dead citizens.
