Ukraine will receive 12 Caesar self-propelled artillery units from France.
Paris will purchase these weapons at a percentage of frozen Russian assets. French authorities have returned 300 million euros in interest from Russia’s frozen assets to buy military equipment for Ukraine later this year. This was stated by French Defense Minister Sebastian Lecornu, BFM TV reports.
We will mobilize interest from frozen Russian assets to purchase military equipment for Ukraine… Only by the end of 2024, France returned 300 million euros,” he noted.
According to him, these funds will buy not only additional Caesars, but also 155-mm shells, Astra missiles, AASM guided bombs and other weapons.
As you know, Caesar is a modern self-propelled artillery unit that combines mobility, accuracy and firepower. This self-propelled gun can quickly turn around, fire a salvo and leave the position. This way you can avoid return fire.
Let us recall that in March the French Ministry of Defense announced that Paris would transfer 78 Caesar self-propelled artillery units to Kyiv. They can be delivered to Ukraine before the beginning of 2025.
