Documents published on social networks describe Israel’s preparations for a strike on Iran. One of the documents also indicates that Israel has nuclear weapons.
The United States is investigating a leak of classified intelligence about Israel’s plans for a revenge strike against Iran. CNN reported this on Saturday, October 19, citing three unnamed sources and documents.
It was learned that the documents dated October 15 and 16 began circulating on the Internet after they were published on Telegram by an account called “Middle East Spectator.” They are classified as “top secret” and marked, indicating that only members of the Five Eyes intelligence alliance – Canada, New Zealand, Britain and Australia (including the United States) – can see this information.
The documents describe Israel’s preparations for a strike on Iran. One of them talks about Israeli plans to transfer ammunition. It is compiled by the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency.
Another document claims to be from the National Security Agency and describes an air-to-surface missile exercise by the Israeli Air Force (IAF) that is also believed to be preparing to strike Iran.
A CNN source said investigators are looking into who had access to the Pentagon document. Any such leak would automatically lead to an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) along with the Pentagon and US intelligence agencies. The FBI declined to comment.
The leak comes at a highly sensitive moment in US-Israeli relations and has angered Israel, which is preparing to hit Iran in retaliation for the October 1 rocket attack.
One of the documents also shows that Israel has refused to publicly acknowledge for years that the country has nuclear weapons. The document says the US has seen no indication that Israel plans to use nuclear weapons against Iran.
Let’s remember that US President Joe Biden said he knew what Israel’s response would be to the Iranian missile attack on October 1.
Before that, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told Biden that Israel plans to strike Iran’s military targets, not its nuclear or oil facilities.
