Western partners are interested in the issue of mobilizing Ukrainians over 18 years of age.
Allies sometimes discuss the mobilization of young men, but there is no pressure to lower the mobilization age. Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov announced this at a briefing on October 18, Radio Liberty reports.
According to Umerov, the partners do not understand why the Ukrainian authorities do not recruit and mobilize men. The allies are explained that the Verkhovna Rada allowed the military to mobilize citizens from 25 to 60 years of age.
We always want to give a choice to a person so that he can choose for himself. Now, as we say, we are working in accordance with all legal norms. The legislation clearly defines it as 25 and above. If there is a desire for someone to come and serve their people, we are always welcome,” he noted.
Let us remind you that on October 9, the Verkhovna Rada adopted a bill exempting Ukrainians under the age of 25 from mobilization. Such persons may be drafted during martial law with their consent.
Earlier, the Secretary of the National Security Committee of the Verkhovna Rada, Roman Kostenko, said that in Ukraine there are not enough young people at the front, and if they do not want to go to defend their country, then they have already lost a generation.
