BRICS leaders will discuss the issues of strengthening the Global South and “general promotion of peace and stability in the world” in Kazan.
Chinese leaders in India Xi Jinping and Narendra Modi will visit the Russian city of Kazan on October 22-24 to participate in the BRICS leaders’ summit. The Foreign Ministries of China and India reported this on Friday, October 18.
“Xi Jinping will have an in-depth exchange of views with the leaders of the BRICS countries on the current international situation, practical cooperation within the organization, the development of BRICS mechanisms and important issues of mutual interest,” the spokesman of the Chinese Foreign Ministry Mao Ning said in a briefing.
He added that Beijing is ready to build cooperation with all BRICS member countries to strengthen the Global South and promote peace and stability in the world.
“Modi will participate in the 16th BRICS summit, which will review the progress achieved within the framework of initiatives put forward by BRICS, as well as identify possible areas for future cooperation,” said of the Indian Foreign Ministry.
The two leaders are expected to hold bilateral meetings with their counterparts, including Russian dictator Vladimir Putin.
BRICS was formed in 2006 by Brazil, Russia, India and China, joined by South Africa in 2011, and this group of countries is named after the abbreviation of their English names BRICS. Since January 1, five more countries have become full members of the group – Egypt, Iran, UAE, Saudi Arabia and Ethiopia.
This year, Russia leads the BRICS, and the main event within the organization should be the summit, which will be hosted by the Kremlin on October 22-24 in Kazan and where a large number of countries from the Global South were invited.
It was previously known that Kazakhstan refused to join BRICS. At the same time, Astana admitted that the country’s President Kasim-Jomart Tokayev had received such proposals.
