Ukraine will be the main topic of discussion among allies during the visit of the American leader to Germany.
US President Joe Biden will discuss the war in Ukraine and the way forward with allies during his visit to Germany. White House Security Advisor Jake Sullivan said this on Thursday, October 17, in a press conference aboard the presidential plane Air Force One, Voice of America reports.
“The four leaders – Germany, France, Great Britain and the United States – will meet to discuss two issues in particular: first, the war in Ukraine and the way forward, especially given the fact that they all had the opportunity to negotiate -conversation with President Zelensky in the past few weeks and heard from him about how he sees things,” Sullivan said.
President Biden will also discuss with his partners the events in the Middle East, Iran, Lebanon, Gaza, Israel, ways to harmonize a strategy with the PRC, and coordinate industrial strategies and innovation. The leaders will also talk about artificial intelligence and the transition to clean energy, Sullivan said.
Biden was scheduled to arrive in Germany for the Ramstein meeting last week, but was forced to cancel the visit due to Hurricane Milton.
Sullivan said the Ukraine Defense Contact Group meeting will take place in November at the leader level in a virtual format. He did not specify the date of the meeting.
The White House adviser also recalled the US position expressed at the NATO summit in Washington: Ukraine’s place and Ukraine’s future is in the Alliance.
“We still have to work to get there, including reforms and security conditions. Therefore, the question is how to build a bridge from where we are now to the possible membership of Ukraine in NATO. And the answer to the question these are the results of the summit in Washington , along with the institutionalization of a security support apparatus for Ukraine,” said Sullivan, adding that President Biden is trying to make the support for Ukraine long-term.
It was previously reported that Biden will meet with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, French President Emmanuel Macron and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer in Berlin.
