Norway was also asked to take “patronage” to one of the brigades of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, following the example of France.
Defense Minister of Ukraine Rustem Umerov met with his Norwegian counterpart Arild Gramm. They discussed the transfer of F-16s to our country, strengthening of air defense and other issues, a Ukrainian official reported on Facebook on Thursday, October 17.
“We discussed the current situation at the front and our needs, especially for long-range weapons. We reached specific agreements on strengthening our air defense. A separate focus is the aviation sector. In particular, strengthening our capabilities with F16 fighters. Norway will continue to support and provide Ukraine with six aircraft in the near future,” the minister wrote.
The officials also discussed the development of the Ukrainian defense industry. In particular, Umerov invited Norway to join the “Danish model” – direct financing of Ukrainian defense enterprises.
“Separately, I proposed that Norway take “patronage” to one of the brigades of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, modeled on France, which includes training and recruitment,” the Ukrainian minister added.
Let’s recall that in July of this year it became known that Norway decided to transfer six F-16 fighters to Ukraine. Aircraft deliveries should take place this year.
It is known that Norway has 74 F-16 fighters at its disposal. They were all taken out of service in 2022. After that, 32 aircraft were sold in Romania.
Earlier, Norway announced that Ukraine will receive the latest weapons for the F-16. Because of this, it is possible to strike at long distances.
